What Your Qatar Visa Status Actually Means — and What to Do Next
The portal answers you in two or three clipped words, as if everyone already knows the code. You don't — and neither did the thousands of people who search these phrases every month. Think of your status like the tracking page for a parcel: each scan tells you where the package is, and whether it's moving, waiting, or coming back to the sender. Here's every scan, translated.
Under Process
What it means: Your file is inside the system and being reviewed. Nothing has been decided yet — this is the long middle of the journey, and most applications spend most of their time right here.
What you do: Wait, mostly. Check once every few days rather than five times a day (nothing you do refreshes it faster), and use the time to make sure your passport is valid and your documents are in order. Work and family visas commonly sit in this stage for 7–10 working days or longer.
Under Outside Process
What it means: This is the status that frightens people most — and it's actually routine. It means part of your processing happens outside Qatar, while you're still in your home country. For many work visas, this is the stage where the applicant completes the required medical tests and biometrics at home before travelling, arranged through the sponsor or employer who applied for you.
What you do: Wait for your sponsor's instructions about the medical and biometric appointments — don't book anything on your own, and don't pay anyone who offers to "speed up" this stage. Above all, understand this: Under Outside Process is not a rejection. It's a normal lane that thousands of work visas travel through.
Ready to Print
What it means: The decision is made — you're approved. What remains is administrative: typically a fee step finished on your sponsor's side, after which the visa document is released for printing.
What you do: Tell your sponsor you've seen the status (a screenshot helps), and once the document is available, follow our printing guide and check every detail on it.
Valid to Use
What it means: The visa is live. You can travel on it within its validity window. This is the green light everyone is waiting for.
What you do: Compare the validity dates with your travel plans — a visa is only useful if its window covers your trip — and keep your printed copy with your passport.
Approved
What it means: Depending on the exact record and stage, you may also see the result described simply as approved. It carries the same good news: the application succeeded, and the process moves on to the printing stage.
What you do: The same as Ready to Print — coordinate with your sponsor and get your document printed and checked.
Rejected
What it means: The application was refused. The portal typically doesn't give you the reasoning — that sits with the authorities and your sponsor.
What you do: Don't pay anyone to "fix" it overnight, and don't resubmit blindly. Ask your sponsor what reason was given; refusals are commonly tied to paperwork problems, medical findings, or eligibility issues, and any fresh attempt has to go through the sponsor with the underlying problem addressed.
Expired
What it means: The visa's validity window has passed — either it was never used in time, or you're looking at an old record.
What you do: Don't travel on it. An expired entry visa generally means your sponsor must arrange a new one before you can go. If you're already in Qatar and it's a residence permit showing expired, treat it as urgent and raise it with your employer immediately — see the validity and renewal guide.
Not Found / No Record
What it means: Strictly, this isn't a status at all — it's the portal saying "I can't match what you typed to any file." The cause is usually a small input slip or an application that hasn't been entered yet, not a decision about you.
What you do: Work through the fixes in our "not found" troubleshooting guide — five minutes there resolves most cases.
The whole journey, in one line
Most work visas travel this road: Under Process → Under Outside Process (medicals & biometrics at home) → Ready to Print → Valid to Use. If your status is somewhere along that line, your application is alive and moving — even when it moves slowly.
