Metrash2: The Visa App That Only Makes Sense After You Arrive
Somewhere in every waiting applicant's search history there's the same hopeful moment: "Maybe there's an app that shows more." And there is an app — Metrash2, the MOI's official mobile app. But it belongs to the second half of the Qatar story, not the first. Understanding which half you're in will save you a frustrating download.

Two worlds: before arrival and after
Before you arrive, you are a guest knocking on the door. The MOI's public portal window — the Visa Inquiry and Printing page — is built for you: no account, no login, just a passport number and a question.
After you arrive and become a resident, you get a key to the building: a Qatar ID (QID). Metrash2 is the residents' corridor inside — a long list of MOI services that open only once that key exists. Neither world is "better." They're simply for different people, and using the wrong one feels like pushing on a locked door.
What Metrash2 actually is
Metrash2 is the Ministry of Interior's official smartphone app, free on iOS and Android. Residents use it for a wide range of MOI business from their phones — and visa and residency matters are part of that. Once you're inside Qatar with a QID, the app is where many people:
- Look up their own visa and residence permit details and validity dates
- Handle visa-related services for family members or others under their sponsorship
- Deal with residency paperwork that would otherwise mean an office visit
The exact menu shifts as the app is updated, so treat any older screenshots you find online as approximate — the live app is the source of truth.
Getting in: the Qatar ID login
Registration is tied to your Qatar ID number and the mobile number registered with it. In practice: download the app from your phone's official store, register with your QID details, and log in with the credentials you create. No QID yet? Then there's nothing to register with — which is the app's polite way of saying you're still in the "before arrival" world, and the public portal is your tool.
Beware of lookalike apps
Only download Metrash2 from the official App Store or Google Play listing, and check that the publisher is Qatar's Ministry of Interior. Cloned "visa checker" apps exist to harvest passport photos and personal details. The real MOI will never ask for your information through a third-party app, a WhatsApp number, or a social media page.
What it can't do for you
- It can't check the visa of someone still abroad. A waiting applicant in Lahore, Kochi, or Manila has no QID — the portal check is the way.
- It doesn't replace the portal for printing. The entry visa document itself comes from the Visa Inquiry and Printing page, as covered in our printing guide.
- It won't make an application move faster. Statuses change when the underlying process changes, not when you look at them through a different screen.
Portal or app — which should you use?
| Your situation | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting in your home country | MOI portal | No login needed; works with just a passport number |
| Visa approved, need the document | MOI portal | Printing lives on the Visa Inquiry and Printing page |
| Living in Qatar with a QID | Metrash2 (and the portal) | Residency and visa services tied to your ID |
And once you're a resident, the question that matters most changes from "has it arrived?" to "when does it expire?" — which is exactly what our validity and renewal guide is about.
