Check Your Qatar Visa Status by Visa Number or Application Number

For applicants holding an approval document or a sponsor's reference · Updated October 2026

Maybe your sponsor's office emailed you a scan of an approval paper with a long number across the top. Or a PRO handed you a slip with an "application number" and told you to track it yourself. Either way, you're holding one of the two other keys to the MOI portal — and this guide shows you where each one fits.

Three keys, one record

Picture your visa file as a single folder in a very large cabinet. The MOI's Visa Inquiry page can pull that folder out by three different labels stuck on it:

  • Passport number — the label that exists from the day the application goes in. (Covered in depth in our passport number guide.)
  • Visa number — a 15-digit label added once the visa itself is issued.
  • Application number — the label on the application while it's still being worked on.

Whichever label you search by, the folder that comes out is the same one. The result screen — name, visa type, validity, status — doesn't change. So use whichever number you actually have in hand.

Method A: the 15-digit visa number

You'll find this number printed on your visa approval document. Count the digits: a Qatar visa number runs to 15 digits. If the number on your paper is much shorter, you're probably looking at an application number instead — skip to Method B.

  1. Open the MOI portal at portal.moi.gov.qa and navigate through Inquiries → Visa Services → Visa Inquiry and Printing.
  2. Set Search By to Visa Number. It's one of the options in the same dropdown where the passport method lives.
  3. Type all 15 digits carefully. Work in small groups — read three or four digits, type them, check. One transposed pair of digits is the classic reason this search "fails."
  4. Choose your nationality from the dropdown, exactly matching the passport the visa was issued against.
  5. Finish the CAPTCHA and hit Search. Your visa record appears with its current status.

Keep the paper, not just the number

That approval document is worth photographing and storing somewhere safe (email it to yourself). If a digit on a smudged printout is unreadable later, the photo saves you a round of phone calls to your sponsor.

Method B: the application number

The application number tracks your file before a visa exists. It's also the option the inquiry page shows by default — handy, because if your sponsor gave you this number, the page is already set up for you.

  1. Reach the same page: portal.moi.gov.qa → Inquiries → Visa Services → Visa Inquiry and Printing.
  2. Leave Search By on Application Number — it's preselected when the page loads.
  3. Enter the application number exactly as your sponsor or their office gave it to you.
  4. Fill in whichever extra detail the page asks for. Depending on the application, the form may also request the sponsor/representative ID or the application date. Your sponsor has these — ask them rather than guessing.
  5. Complete the CAPTCHA and search. You'll see whether the application is still under review, approved, or refused.

One honest limitation: the application view is a progress report, not the finished visa. Once the file is approved and a visa number is generated, most people switch to the passport or visa-number search, which shows the fuller record including validity dates and the print option.

And if none of the three produces a result? That has its own set of explanations — most of them harmless. Work through our troubleshooting guide before assuming the worst, and if your status wording puzzles you once a record does appear, the status meanings guide decodes it.

All three roads lead to the same official page

Every method in this guide runs on the MOI's own portal: portal.moi.gov.qa. Bookmark it, and be suspicious of any other site that offers to "track" your Qatar visa for a fee.
